About the artist:
Erica Magrey is an artist exploring the ways in which fantasy shapes reality and identity. Her video and performance work takes a cue from science fiction visions of the 60s and 70s as expressed in television, movies, music, and fashion. Magrey’s performative and musical persona Metalmags is a singing space explorer whose striving for self-improvement often parallels her mission goals. Her work employs handmade costumes and miniature sets in the portrayal of alien worlds and beings, and her music (written and performed under the name Metalmags) provides an emotional narrative soundtrack to her adventures.
Magrey has a BFA in Photography from Hartford Art School in Bloomfield, CT and an MFA in Photography, Video, and Related Media from the School of Visual Arts in NYC. Magrey lives and works in Brooklyn.
